The UK Government is committed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and achieve Net Zero by 2050.
We have the oldest and coldest housing stock in Europe. Our houses account for about 30% of the total UK energy use. And that’s about 20% of total UK carbon emissions.
To minimise demand in our homes and make them more energy-efficient, we need to retrofit around 26 million homes. This requires a joint effort of the government, local authorities, businesses, finance providers and local communities. But it remains one of the most tangible and efficient ways to address climate change and meet environmental targets.
